came from via garibaldiaThe Bed and Breakfast “La Terrazza dei Pelargoni” is situated in the medieval heart of Ventimiglia, an ancient cross-roads and obligatory stopping point for travellers from Liguria to Provence and on the Salt Route to Piedmont. Important monuments which characterise Ventimiglia Alta include the Romanesque Cathedral and church of San Michele; the church of San Giovanni; the Oratory of the Black Confraternity; the convent church of San Antonio the Abbot, in baroque style; the church of San Francesco, originally in Gothic style and later converted to the baroque; the Parliament loggia – a public building dating from the 15th C; the aristocratic palazzi in Via Garibaldi, enriched in the 16th and 17th C with hanging gardens – a unique Ligurian urban feature; the 16thC Genovese town wall that still almost completely surrounds the present day historic centre, and traces of an earlier medieval wall.

The house faces the Roya river and enjoys a calm and sunny position. From the terrace you can admire the coast, from the mouth of the river as far as Cape Ampelio (Bordighera), and the beautiful mountains which are a feature of the upper Roya Valley.

Guests have the use of a spacious living room complete with fire-place, and of the terrace which boasts a fine collection of botanic pelargonium.

The Calandre Beach is a short walk away: it is well known for its very fine sand and is popular with surfies from all over Europe. A few kilometres away is the exclusive Balzi Rossi beach, site of the future marine reserve.

You can visit some of the renowned historic gardens near Ventimiglia: the Hanbury Botanic Gardens, Villa Boccanegra, Villa Voronoff, and you can admire the hanging gardens in Ventimiglia Alta itself.

A short distance away, either by car or using excellent public transport you can visit the celebrated towns and villages of the Cote d’Azur and the Ligurian Riviera and their hinterland: Menton, Montecarlo, Nice, Sanremo, Dolceacqua, Apricale, ...
